Windows 11 makes screen sharing in Microsoft Teams and other video calls easier

Microsoft is working on integrating a handy new Microsoft Teams integration into its new operating system – Windows 11 – in the near future. 

Windows 11 users will be able to hover over open windows on the taskbar and rapidly share the information of the window during a Microsoft Teams call. The software manufacturer has begun testing the new feature in Windows 11 for Teams and other communication apps running on Windows 11, and it will make screen sharing a lot more convenient. 

Microsoft will shortly integrate Microsoft Teams into Windows 11. Microsoft is developing a feature in Windows 11 that allows Teams users to instantly exchange window information on a Microsoft Teams call. Windows 11 Teams and other collaboration apps will benefit greatly from this.

For now, Microsoft is testing this with Microsoft Teams for business or school, rather than the Windows 11 consumer edition. Not everyone will see this right once with their Teams calls, says Amanda Langowski, Windows Insider program director. “We plan to bring this to Chat from Microsoft Teams (Microsoft Teams for home) later.”  

However, the good news is that this will not be restricted to Teams alone. Adding this feature to another communications application is likewise possible, according to Langowski. She noted that sharing a meeting call is only possible for the current meeting call. 

Apps like Slack or Zoom, for example, might add this feature into their apps, making it far easier for users of the new Windows 11 to share what is on their computer during video calls with others. It is unclear when Microsoft will include this feature in the new Windows 11, but given the schedule of testing, it is expected to arrive in the first quarter of 2022 at the very latest.

It’s also worth noting that Microsoft is only testing this with a subset of Windows Insiders at this time, so just because you have the Dev Channel releases of Windows 11 installed doesn’t ensure you’ll be able to test it.
