Microsoft announced the first beta of Windows 11, which marks a milestone towards a full release of the updated operating system later this year. The first beta, available to Windows Insiders, is a much more stable release than the Dev Channel preview provided by Microsoft.
Although the software was opened to the public, Microsoft had only recommended the “Dev Version” for ‘Hi-tech’ users because of the less polished elements of the operating system that were still in development.
The new beta will open the door for more people who want to try Windows 11 before it launches, but it’s still recommended to use it on an additional computer. However, Microsoft says the latest version fixes some known issues. If you’re interested, you can join the Windows Insider Program here.
Of course, you need a compatible computer to install this Beta version. It’s unknown if the hardware will work with the next version of Windows, but this Microsoft’s Insider Build Prep article will take you to the system requirements page. The company also says it will pay close attention to how well the “7th Gen Intel” and “AMD Zen 1” processors will perform during the trial period.
How To Install Window 11 Beta
Not all devices that can work with Windows 10, including some Microsoft Surface devices, can work with Windows 11.
Although Microsoft will let you try Windows 11 Preview on technically incompatible devices during this trial period, you won’t be able to upgrade to the final version of the operating system.
That said, to install the operating system as a Windows Insider you simply select the appropriate channel.
1). Head over to Settings. Click Update & Security and then Windows Insider Program. Tap “Get Started”.
2). Link your Microsoft Account. You can’t use a local account with the Insider Program without significant workarounds.
3). Choose which of the channels you’d like to join. Most likely, this will be the Beta Channel. The Release Preview Channel only updates right before the Windows 11’s release (it’s basically a final draft) so there’s not much sense in joining it if you’re looking to be an early adopter.
4). Next, restart your system.
5). At “Settings” tap the “Update & Security” to choose “Check for updates”. That’s it!
6). Next, you will have to wait for installation to be completed then follow the steps.
Enjoy your shiny new OS.
