It has been rumoured for some time that Facebook was developing its smartphone. But this has been denied or side-stepped for years.
Well it seems that we will finally find out if this is true on Thursday, this week. According to a report in the New York Times last week, citing anonymous sources, Facebook intends to unveil its first phone designed to showcase its social network. Using a version of Google’s Android software and made by HTC, the device will be built into Facebook’s services and include a camera.
Earlier this week, Facebook sent an invitation to the media for a new conference at the company’s headquarters in Menlo Park, Calif., on April 4. The invite promised a “significant mobile-focused announcement.”
