WhatsApp is reportedly testing a new feature that allows users to start conversations with individuals whose numbers are not saved in their contacts. This functionality, previously unavailable on the popular instant messaging app, eliminates the need to save a contact’s number or rely on third-party apps to bypass the process of adding a new number.
With the introduction of this new feature, users can now message unsaved contacts by simply searching for their numbers. While it may seem like a small and basic addition, it greatly benefits those who frequently interact with individuals not saved in their contacts.
For instance, consider a recent scenario where someone called to inquire about pricing for a specific service. In order to send the requested price list through WhatsApp, the caller, being a new client, had to be added to the contact list first. However, with the new feature, it becomes as easy as searching the number and starting the conversation, making the process significantly more convenient.
It is important to note that this feature only works for numbers registered on WhatsApp. Nevertheless, the good news is that it is not limited to the beta version of the app. Users will need to have the latest version of WhatsApp installed on their Android or iOS devices for the feature to work seamlessly.
While this may appear to be a minor change to the app, it undoubtedly adds convenience for many users, including myself. The next time you need to message an unknown number on WhatsApp, simply start a new chat, enter the number in the search bar, and a Chat button will appear, allowing you to start the conversation.
According to reports from WABetaInfo, the feature is already live on the latest WhatsApp build for both iPhone and Android. Furthermore, WhatsApp has been observed working on @username support, which will further simplify communication with new contacts on the platform, without the need to know their phone numbers.
If the Chat option does not immediately appear in your WhatsApp, make sure to update the app to the latest version available on the Play Store. Keep in mind that this feature is being rolled out server-side by Meta, so it may take some time before it becomes available to all users.
