WhatsApp is introducing a new feature called “video messages” in its latest beta updates for iOS and Android. This feature allows users to share short videos, up to 60 seconds in length, similar to voice notes. Currently available to selected beta testers, video messages will be gradually rolled out to more users in the coming weeks.
To check if the feature is enabled for their WhatsApp account, users can simply tap the microphone button within the chat bar. If it transforms into a video camera button, they can start recording and sending video messages right away. When sending or receiving a video message, users can enlarge the video by tapping on it to listen to the accompanying audio.
Video messages offer a sense of immediacy as they are recorded and sent in real-time, making them more authentic compared to pre-recorded videos. Additionally, WhatsApp ensures the privacy and security of video messages through end-to-end encryption, meaning that even WhatsApp itself cannot access them. While video messages cannot be directly forwarded through the app, users can save them through screen recording.
The feature is currently available to beta testers who have installed the latest versions of WhatsApp beta for iOS “from the TestFlight app and WhatsApp beta for Android from the Google Play Store”, WATBetaInfo says. It will be rolled out to more users in the coming weeks.
The introduction of video messages adds an exciting dimension to WhatsApp, providing users with a new and enhanced way to communicate quickly and authentically. With end-to-end encryption in place, users can have confidence in the privacy and security of their conversations.
