WhatsApp has announced a new update for WhatsApp groups that provides admins with greater control over who can join their groups. The update also includes a new feature that allows users to discover which groups they have in common with someone. The goal of these updates is to enhance group privacy and make group management more streamlined.
The new tool that the update includes allows admins to easily decide who can join their groups. When an admin shares their group’s invite link, or makes their group joinable in a community, they can view all of the requests in one place and quickly decide who to approve or reject. Admins can simply click an “X” or checkmark to approve or reject a user.

Additionally, the update makes it easier for users to find out which groups they have in common with a particular contact. Users can search a contact’s name to view their common groups.
This feature is useful for those who want to remember the name of a group that they share with someone or those who want to see the groups they have in common with a particular contact.

The announcement comes a few months after the launch of Communities, a feature that offers larger, more structured discussion groups. Communities brought several new features to the messaging platform, including admin controls, support for sub-groups and announcement groups, 32-person voice and video calls, larger-file sharing, emoji reactions, and polls. Communities can support groups of up to 1,024 users and offer end-to-end encryption.
In a blog post, WhatsApp stated that since the launch of Communities, it has been working to build even more tools for admins and users. The new features are designed to make groups more manageable for admins and easier to navigate for all users.
The messaging platform has been committed to providing enhanced privacy and security for its users, and these new features are part of that effort.
