WhatsApp unveils upcoming enhancements to web client’s dark theme

WhatsApp is actively engaged in developing a new dark interface for its web client. This initiative includes introducing a fresh background colour tailored specifically for the dark theme, accompanied by a redesigned sidebar.

The objective is to not only enhance the visual aesthetics of the web client but also to alleviate eye strain, particularly in low-light conditions. This forthcoming interface is currently in the developmental phase and is anticipated to be part of a future update.

Users eagerly anticipating this feature may not find it in their current WhatsApp version, as it remains under development. However, an insightful preview of what to expect has been provided in this WABetaInfo’s report.

WhatsApp has been working towards modernising the web client’s interface for an improved messaging experience. While the sidebar redesign is still in progress, the latest update indicates a parallel focus on introducing a new background colour for the dark theme, designed to elevate the overall visual appeal.

The proposed colour scheme transition, as illustrated in the above screenshot, involves a subtle shift from #111b20 to #12181c. This alteration aims to bring a nuanced yet impactful change to the interface, enhancing visual appeal and mitigating eye strain, especially in environments with diminished lighting.

Beyond aesthetics, this strategic move aligns with WhatsApp’s commitment to meeting user preferences for a refreshed and redesigned experience. Notably, the introduction of a new colour scheme for the dark theme follows the recent Android app redesign, introducing changes like a bottom navigation bar and a fresh color palette. This consistency across platforms aims to foster familiarity and ensure a cohesive user experience.

The new dark theme interface is currently in the development phase, and its release is anticipated in a future update for the web client. Further details will be shared in subsequent articles as the development progresses.
