WhatsApp is working on a new feature that offers more control when watching videos in the app. It looks like the company started working on the feature after many users asked the Meta-owned platform for the ability to rewind and forward videos without having to rely on the progress bar.
First spotted by WABetaInfo, the new video playback controls allow users to rewind and forward videos by 10 seconds. The new buttons look similar to YouTube’s implementation.
Available on WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.24.6, the new video playback controls make it easy for users to get to the most crucial parts of videos. This is significantly easier than scrubbing the progress bar to get to the part of the video you want.
The publication indicates that the feature is only available to beta testers, but WhatsApp might roll out the new video playback buttons to more people in the coming days. However, it is still unclear on when it will be available to everyone.
Apart from new playback controls, WhatsApp is also working on a new privacy-focused ‘Alternate profile’ which helps mask information like profile photo and allows users to use a different photo and name for contacts not on their list.
In the last few months, WhatsApp has been rapidly adding new features like a new way to share voice notes and stickers, support for multiple accounts on a single device and a new ‘protect IP address’ feature for calls.
