WhatsApp is set to introduce a new screen-sharing feature that will enable users to share their device screen while on a video call. According to reliable reports from WABetaInfo, the screen-sharing functionality is already being tested by a select group of beta testers. However, WhatsApp plans to gradually extend its availability to a wider user base over the course of the next few weeks.
This development follows a recent update wherein the screen-sharing feature was introduced to WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.23.11.19.
WhatsApp is giving users the ability to “collaborate, demonstrate, and troubleshoot various tasks or issues remotely” as they share the content of their devices during video calls. To access this feature, “users need to install the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS 23.12.0.74 update,” the report says. Once enabled for your WhatsApp account, you will notice a new icon at the bottom of the screen during a video call. By tapping on this icon, you can share the content of your screen with all participants on the call.
It’s important to note that when using screen sharing, everything on your device screen, including notifications, will be recorded and shared with the individuals connected to the video call. To avoid any unexpected interruptions, it is advisable to activate the “Do Not Disturb” mode or your preferred focus mode.
As depicted in an image above by WABetaInfo, the screen-sharing icon appears beside the video camera feature. Upon tapping the icon, a WhatsApp screen broadcast window will appear (see the second screenshot), initiating the screen-sharing process.
Rest assured, you have complete control over this feature. While your screen content is continuously shared during the video call, you can choose to stop it at any time. Furthermore, your screen content is only shared when you grant permission to do so.
Please note that the screen-sharing feature is expected to be available for both iOS and Android users, offering a solution to enhance video call experiences on WhatsApp.
