WhatsApp introduces disable read receipts feature

We published a post early this month informing our WhatsApp lovers of the read receipt feature. We are here again to inform not only WhatsApp lovers but those who hate nagging on this app. A checkmark for Read Receipts lets you enable the option or turn it off. In that case, WhatsApp will no longer show other people when you read their messages, but it will also stop you from seeing the blue checkmarks for all of your conversations. That’s WhatsApp’s way of keeping things fair.

“If you turn off read receipts, you won’t be able to see read receipts from other people,” a notice inside the app reads. “Read receipts are always sent for group chats.”

While this option is only available inside WhatsApp for Android right now, it seems likely it will soon be rolled out to BlackBerry, iOS, and Windows Phone users, too.

It took WhatsApp around five years to bring this ability to its half a billion active users. When your friends and loved ones read your messages now, the little green checks that confirm they’ve been delivered turn blue to show that they’ve also been seen.

We also hope that the ping feature in the popular BBM would also be introduced in Whatsapp. Some peeps could be sleeping with their eyes wide open. They need a PING!!!
