WhatsApp continues to enhance its Channels feature as it aims to attract people interested in staying updated on specific topics or companies.
In the most recent update, the platform has introduced voice messages and new sticker features. Additionally, individual messages in Channels will now have permanent links for easier sharing.
Although most social media and messaging platforms have supported message editing for some time, WhatsApp was lacking this feature in Channels. However, the latest update has rectified this.
Channels, introduced to everyone in September, is becoming a prominent focus for Meta, the owner of WhatsApp.
When companies or accounts post messages, referred to as “updates” within Channels, they now have the ability to edit the content within the message for up to 30 days. Edited messages will display an indicator next to their timestamp, ensuring transparency.
Editing messages is a straightforward process. On Android, you can edit a Channel message by tapping and holding the message, selecting the three-dot menu, and choosing “Edit.” Afterward, you can write your new message and confirm the changes.
On a web browser, the process is similar. Hover over the message to display a dropdown caret, and select “Edit.”
The 30-day editing rule and two essential points are mentioned in WhatsApp’s FAQs: edited channel messages won’t trigger notifications for users, and editing is limited to text content in messages, excluding photos, videos, and other media or files.
WhatsApp has released numerous updates to the public in October, with one major addition being the ability to use multiple accounts on a single Android device.
Beta testing is underway for the voice notes feature allowing users the ability to share voice messages in “view once” mode.
With more updates in the works, WhatsApp continues to maintain its position as the world’s top messaging app.
