12 African entrepreneurs have been selected to join the 2020 cohort of the Westerwelle Young Founders Programme.
The Westerwelle programme brings together promising entrepreneurs from developing and emerging economies for a six month mentorship programme and afford them the opportunity to participate in the Young Founder Conference in Germany.
The Westerwelle Foundation for International Understanding supports collaboration between young entrepreneurs, executives and decision makers from around the world.
The 2020 edition of the programme shortlisted 25 entrepreneurs, 12 of whom hail from Africa.
The 12 African startups include:
- Kiptoo Magutt of Kenya’s Twende Carpool
- Anatoli Kirigwajjo of Uganda’s Yunga Technologies
- Emmanuel Emodek of Uganda’s ChapChap Africa
- Damilola Emuze of Nigeria’s ScholarX
- Jide Ayegbusi of Nigeria’s Edusko
- Luther Lawoyin of Nigeria’s Pricepally
- Jacques Sibomana of South Africa’s Kuba
- Desmond Konney of Ghana’s Complete Farmer
- Julius Mbungo of Tanzania’s Toolboksi
- Dominique Uwase Alonga of Rwanda’s Imagine We
- Marita Walther of Namibia’s Ebikes4Africa
- Bop Sandrino-Arndt of Cameroon’s Optimiz Africa

The remaining startups were selected from Brazil, Chile, India, Colombia, Pakistan, Myanmar, Argentina, Thailand, Singapore, and Lebanon.
The programme kicks-off with the Westerwelle Young Founders Conference in Berlin this month (March 2020).
It aims to connect young founders from developing and emerging economies with each other and the German startup scene, with selected entrepreneurs then offered access to mentoring, expert sessions, and the Young Founders alumni network.
