It’s the one herb that goes by many names. Illegal in most places, legal in few and a blurred line in some. Mary – Jane, Weed, Marijuana, pot, ganja, cannabis (I wonder how many of the different names we can use in this post). You get the picture, it has more names than Prince the singer had at the peak of his career. Keeping with the street names is difficult enough; Why is weed such a big thing? In this great technology era, will weed drone delivery happen anytime soon? Good question.
I’m not a big fan of intoxication, it’s generally an unproductive state of mind. You get nothing but a senseless euphoria making you believe your problems will be gone in an hour. I’m not here to bash other people’s hobbies; while getting high is not my prerogative, technology definitely is. Tech in delivery services has gone beyond wedging itself in taxi services like Uber; beyond food delivery service like Flytrex in Iceland; Deliveries of Medical supplies in Rwanda and according to the New York Post, maybe drones will even deliver your morning after pill one day (I’m sure some naughties are smiling now). So while we’re all getting excited about drone deliveries California will not let you get high off a drone delivery. So no, weed drone delivery may not be on the cards just yet.
The actual sale of recreational weed in California was legalized this year through a vote through a citizen vote and the state of California is now just working out a few kinks while they work on giving business licenses for pot. It’s quite refreshing to see a government take advantage of a situation and formalize a usually informal sector because they are more likely to make money from it that way. We all know that giving marijuana the illegal status does not stop dealing it just creates a black market and puts people at risk as there are no standards of quality. To be honest the picture is very difficult to fathom from my position, a room full of suits discussing what type of marijuana to allow and what sort of business rules to apply to the industry.
Licencing with Weed Drone Delivery
Naturally, it was in the midst of this that the conversation probably went to shipping. How are people going to receive the weed they order online? It turns out they have actually thought this through and set up limitations when it comes to weed transportation. The biggest one is that you won’t be able to transport marijuana via drone. I guess it only makes sense as it would be difficult to police aerial drone deliveries (would California need a set of police drones?). In either case, they have also made some security restrictions to the shipping of marijuana in California by car as well.
This must be what happens when your local authority decides to legalize drugs. Their government by thinking it through is refreshing from an African view. They are making sure the weed business is as safe as possible and there are monitoring measures in place. The legalization of weed in my country would mean disorientation becomes the order of the day. We could become that one country that constantly looks like a Jamaican music video. Do you think your local government would be able to ensure the safe and monitored trading of marijuana?
