As of today, the Google driverless car is no more. Parent company, Alphabet announced a new business called Waymo, which stands for “A new way forward in mobility”. Instead of building its own cars, Waymo will install its technology on third-party vehicles.
It is obvious Alphabet is competing with companies like Tesla and Uber who have revved up their driverless car technology. Uber already lets its users hail self-driving cars in Pittsburgh and may soon roll them out in San Fransisco.
Alphabet’s mission with the new company is to make it safe and easy for people and things to move around. So this may be a hint to a more long-haul autonomous driving.
