Vuba Vuba launches in Rwanda to take over where Jumia Food left off

Vuba Vuba, an online food ordering and delivery platform has launched in Rwanda.

The launch is a timely one as the service aims to pick up where the Jumia Food left off before it exited the country in December 2019.

Vuba Vuba will be the sole platform offering food delivery in Kigali, Rwanda’s capital. This is due to SafeMotos’ exit from Rwanda due to a lack of financing.

At the helm of Vuba Vuba is Albert Munyabugingo, who previously ran Jumia Food’s operations in the country. The startup has also kept on about 80 percent of the previously Jumia staff and riders in Kigali.

Vuba Vuba’s goal is to help local businesses, restaurants, hotels and supermarkets increase their sales as well as their marketing efforts through the app.

They will also regularly dispatch payments to vendors in order to avoid cash flow problems owing to delayed settlements.

Munyabugingo says that the Rwandan market is ready for eCommerce, and that Jumia’s operation needed bigger margins to operate sustainably at scale.

Vuba Vuba, which officially became operational in Rwanda on January 1st, 2020, is available on the the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
