Vodacom Tanzania has introduced the first vending machine that accepts M-Pesa payments.

Customers can select an item in the machine and pay for it via QR code in the Safaricom mobile App.

Once the customer makes the payment, the vending machine dispenses items.

Managing Director, Vodacom TZ, Hisham Hendi confirmed, “We are the first to bring to Tanzania. This is the first and the only vending machine that works via M-Pesa.”

Earlier, Hendi had promised users of the firm’s plans to expand M-Pesa payment options.

He said, “We continue to add new services to the platform to expand customers’ payment options and make transacting more accessible by increasing our agent network.”

This is a step forward towards boosting Vodacom’s revenue streams. M-Pesa accounted for close to 34.4% of the firm’s total revenue in Tanzania.

Hendi has reiterated that Vodacom Tanzania will continue to innovate and come up with more solutions that leverage money transfer and payments.
