The Top Employers Institute has named Vodacom Group as the top employer in Africa, with Vodacom South Africa and Vodacom Mozambique also receiving the prestigious certification and top-ranking. The institute annually recognizes organizations that prioritize their employees through superior Human Resource (HR) policies.
The programme’s certification process involves assessing HR best practices in areas including People Strategy, Work Environment, Talent Acquisition, Learning, Diversity & Inclusion, and Wellbeing. While Vodacom Group has featured as a Top Employer for seven consecutive years (2017-2023), this is the first time it has claimed the top spot.
“It is an honor to be recognized as the Top Employer on the continent where our main reason for existence is to connect for a better future,” said Vodacom Group CEO, Shameel Joosub. He emphasized the company’s initiatives to boost morale and promote a positive corporate culture.
The company has implemented a Spirit Beat survey to gauge employee alignment with the ‘Spirit of Vodacom’, and improved its Employee Value Proposition (EVP) to foster a work environment where employees can make a difference. Matimba Mbungela, Vodacom Group’s Chief Officer for Human Resources, credited teamwork and collaboration for the achievement.
Vodacom Group serves over 500 million people in various markets, including South Africa, Tanzania, DRC, Mozambique, Lesotho, Egypt, and partnerships with Safaricom Kenya and Safaricom Ethiopia. All of these also received Top Employer certification.
