Global payments leader Visa has officially opened applications for the fifth edition of its Africa Fintech Accelerator, a flagship initiative aimed at nurturing and scaling high-potential fintech startups across the continent. The three-month accelerator program offers selected ventures access to mentorship, cutting-edge technology, strategic industry connections, and potential funding opportunities.
Launched in 2023, the Africa Fintech Accelerator is a key component of Visa’s broader commitment to invest US$1 billion in Africa’s digital transformation and financial inclusion by 2027. Since its inception, the program has supported dozens of startups across four successful cohorts, helping them refine their business models, expand their reach, and unlock new growth opportunities.
To date, the accelerator has facilitated nearly 20 active partnerships between Visa and participating startups. Notably, four startups from the inaugural 2023 cohort have since secured strategic funding directly from Visa, while two additional ventures from the third cohort also received investment, underscoring the program’s role as a launchpad for long-term collaboration and capital access.
The fifth cohort is now open to early- and growth-stage fintechs operating across Africa, particularly those offering innovative solutions in areas such as payments, lending, digital banking, financial literacy, and cross-border commerce. Selected startups will benefit from:
- Tailored mentorship from Visa executives and industry experts
- Access to Visa’s global network of partners, clients, and investors
- Technical support and product development resources
- Opportunities for strategic investment and commercial collaboration
A Visa spokesperson stated;
Visa’s Africa Fintech Accelerator is more than just a program—it’s a platform for transformation. We’re proud to support the next generation of African fintech leaders who are building inclusive, scalable solutions that address real-world financial challenges.
Applications for the fifth cohort are now open, with the program set to begin later this year. Interested startups can apply via Visa’s official accelerator portal.
