Visa and Amazon Web Services (AWS) have announced a strategic partnership to enable AI agents to transact autonomously and securely on behalf of users. By combining Visa’s global payment infrastructure with AWS’s advanced AI and cloud capabilities, the partnership aims to simplify commerce, accelerate innovation, and deliver seamless experiences for consumers and businesses worldwide.
The collaboration will provide developers with open blueprint designs on the Amazon Bedrock AgentCore public repository. These blueprints serve as guides to create intelligent agent workflows across industries such as retail, travel, and B2B payments. By leveraging these templates, AI agents can manage complex, multi-step transactions—ranging from product discovery and price comparison to secure checkout and order tracking—without direct human intervention.
Rubail Birwadker, SVP and global head of Growth at Visa, said, “Visa Intelligent Commerce is designed to be the trust layer for the agent economy. With AWS’s scalable cloud capabilities and Visa’s global payment network, Visa Intelligent Commerce enables AI agents to transact securely and contextually at scale.”
The initiative has already engaged several industry leaders, including Expedia Group, Intuit, lastminute.com, and Eurostars Hotel Company, to ensure the blueprints address practical use cases. For example, a consumer could instruct an AI agent to “Buy me basketball game tickets if the price drops below $150,” and the agent would monitor prices, select the best option, and complete the purchase automatically. Similarly, in the retail space, AI agents can automatically shop for products, compare prices across platforms, and execute orders when discounts meet user-set criteria.
The partnership represents a major step toward the growing “agent economy,” where autonomous AI-driven systems can perform tasks traditionally handled by humans. As AI adoption continues to accelerate globally, these tools are expected to reduce friction in payments, improve transaction security, and unlock efficiencies for both consumers and enterprises.
Visa and AWS are positioning the initiative as a foundation for future innovations in commerce. By enabling secure, automated, and intelligent transactions, the collaboration could reshape customer expectations, giving businesses new ways to engage with consumers while expanding the role of AI in daily financial interactions.
