A Facebook Live video has revealed that the police have fatally shot a prisoner at the Oklahoma county detention centre. This prisoner was seen to have taken a Corrections Officer hostage. The centre’s Administrator, Greg Williams, confirmed this incident during a news conference on Saturday evening broadcast by KWTv news 9. Greg has said that it took place when the inmates were receiving their medication.
According to County Sheriff Tommy Johnson, “the inmate overran the officer”. He added that his department dispatched the senior tactical team to the scene shortly after 4 pm.
The incident was recorded Live on Facebook and shared across different social media channels. It began in the jail segregation pod on the 10th floor where the inmates that are most difficult to handle are housed.
According to NBC News, there were attempts to reduce the intensity of the situation. The Officer who was held in the hostage position had something held to his neck and so the team had to use force to savage the situation.
The officer is now receiving treatment in the hospital for minor and non-life-threatening injuries.
An unidentified inmate was heard saying (in the video) that the hostage-taking is an attempt to report the negative conditions at the Oklahoma County Detention Center.
“The water don’t work, the toilet is packed up. This is what we’re dealing with,” were statements made by one inmate in the video evidence.
