EA Sports revealed in a trailer for FIFA 16 that the new game will now feature women teams. Since the launch of the game in 1993, the highly successful football video game has only had men football teams.
The game is set to be released in September of this year, just a few months after the Women’s World Cup which is taking place in Canada this June. The women teams that will be in this edition of the video game are the female international teams for USA, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, England, France, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Spain and Sweden. EA Sports revealed that female teams will only be able to play against other female teams.
When Alex Morgan, a forward for the U.S.A. football team was asked what it meant for women to be included in the game, she said;
It is such an honor for women’s players and our team to be included in FIFA 16. I always wondered what it would be like to see our team in the game and it is very cool to know that it is now a reality.
She revealed she is an avid gamer and will like to play herself.
