From May 31st, 2021, the airline company will fly commuters directly to South Africa.
“A statement issued by the airline indicated that it would fly four times every week from Entebbe to Johannesburg,” Business Insider Africa reports.
On January 20th, 2020, Uganda Airlines announced on Twitter that it would fly to Johannesburg soon with a direct flight out of Entebbe. At the time, reports suggested that the route would be served with a CRJ900.
The statement issued by Uganda Airlines added that the direct flight to South Africa is part of measures to expand connections on the African continent.
It added that the Johannesburg’s flight would enhance connectivity to and from the carrier’s current network, including places like Kenya, Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, South Sudan, Somalia, and Burundi.
The carrier has also targeted the European, Middle East and Asian market after it received two long-haul aircraft this year.
The Ugandan government is optimistic that the country’s economic growth and tourism sector will be boosted with the revival of the national flag carrier.
Uganda Airlines took off its inaugural flight on August 27 from Uganda’s Entebbe Airport to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), Nairobi, Kenya.
Meanwhile, Uganda Airlines already serves Juba, Bujumbura, Mogadishu, Kilimanjaro, Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar, Nairobi and Mombasa.
