Uche Ofodile has joined MTN as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for Lonestar Cell, MTN Liberia. She joins the telco company from Facebook where she joined the Regional Head, Africa – Express Wi-Fi about a year ago.
She shared news of the new post on a recent Facebook post:
Starting a new job, meeting new people and adopting a new culture can be overwhelming. Frequently I get asked, “What should you do in your first week of work”?
Over the years, these pointers have been my go-to strategy and this is what I’ve tried to do in my first week as CEO of MTN Liberia.Well, I discovered (and I’m doing that now) that listening is really important. Sounds easy but a lot of times we usually come into a new role with bias and that sometimes leads to a rush to judgement.
Ask lots of questions!
I’m pretty sure everyone is already tired of me.
I’m asking every single question I can because I want to understand the business, the teams, the people.
Everything!
After your first couple of weeks, read your notes back to yourself.
Do they make sense?
Are there still things you don’t understand?
Ask again!
Make good use of your time because you are new and everyone gives you time but very soon people will “forget” you are new.
Before joining Facebook, Uche was the CEO of Millicom/Tigo DRC. She holds a BA degree in Political Science from Ramapo College, New Jersey, USA and a Diploma in Strategic Marketing from Columbia University Business School, New York, USA.
