Uber’s Chief Product Officer, Manik Gupta, has stepped down and will officially terminate his service at the company as of December 13.
Gupta revealed the tough choice in a note to Uber’s product team.
Uber’s product team will be temporarily managed by Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshashi, as recommended by Gupta in his exit note.
The outgoing product head left Google for Uber in 2015. He was the Senior Director of the maps and marketplace product team before being promoted to Uber’s Chief Product Officer in 2018.

The resignation announcement comes shortly after Uber reported a loss north of USD 1 Billion in its latest earnings report.
2019 has been a crucial year for Uber which went public through its IPO. Uber’s stock is currently trading at USD 26.78, down from its debut price of USD 45.
A spokesperson for Uber told TechCrunch, “Over the past four years, Manik has elevated our product strategy and has been the driving force behind some of our most ambitious launches, including Uber Rewards and Uber Pro, Uber Wallet, and our movement towards a ‘super app,’ We’re grateful for his leadership and wish him the very best.”
