Uber’s ambition seems to be the total domination of the transport business. It is arguably the global leader in the provision of taxi hailing services. Now it has ventured into self-driving trucks.
While other tech companies like Google are still testing self-driving cars, Uber has taken the bold step to make a delivery with a self-driving truck. Amazing!
Was this abracadabra or what? How was it possible for Uber to achieve this fit so soon? Well, it is because Uber bought Otto for $680 million in August. Otto is a company that makes self-driving tech for trucks.
In a blog post to make this announcement, Otto wrote that: “We delivered 51,744 cans of Budweiser with the truck driving itself for approximately 120 miles. Our system controlled the truck’s acceleration, braking, and steering exit-to-exit without any human intervention; in fact, its human driver monitored the entire operation from a sleeper berth in the back of the vehicle.”
If this tech becomes reality and it is imported into Africa, truck drivers can now leave their trucks on autopilot mode and take much-needed naps!
However, the technology only functions on roads that are not difficult to navigate.
