Uber has launched Uber Pass in South Africa. This is the first market Uber is launching this service in Europe, Middle East and Africa.
Uber Pass is a monthly subscription plan that combines rides, eats, bikes and scooters. For a fixed monthly fee, you get discounts on both rides and eats, letting you do more with Uber. Uber launched the pilot phase of this service in July 2019 in some selected cities in the US.
In South Africa, Uber Pass is combining eats and rides for R99.99 ($6.51) per month. Discounts available are listed below:
- 10% off 45 UberX, XL, Connect, and Go rides per month
- 15% off 45 Black and Van rides per month
- R0 delivery fee on up to 30 Uber Eats orders over R80 per month
- 5% off up to 30 Uber Eats orders over R80 per month
According to Uber’s press release on this service, “For anyone relying on Uber to move around their city or have local favourites delivered to their door, Uber Pass is live nationwide for customers in cities like Port Elizabeth, Johannesburg, Cape Town, East London and Durban. This monthly plan unlocks savings on Uber rides, Eats delivery, and grocery order through an all-in-one bundle of benefits.”
Uber Pass is available in all cities in South Africa where Uber operates. If you live in a city where it’s available, you’ll see Uber Pass in the menu of your Uber app. The pass renews automatically every month, and you can cancel anytime.
Uber also announced a newly designed interface for Eats on the mobile app. There is also a group ordering feature that is expected to launch later in the year.
“We’re always looking at ways we can improve the lives of South Africans by offering solutions that work for their everyday needs. Uber is about developing technology to be more and do more, bringing the convenience, affordability and reliability synonymous with the app to as many people as possible,” explains Frans Hiemstra, GM for Uber Sub Saharan Africa.
