Uber, the taxi hailing company has opened its food delivery service, Uber Eats, in East Africa, Nairobi Kenya to be precise.
This is Uber Eats fourth city in Africa. It opened its first African shop in Johannesburg, South Africa in September 2016.
According to Uber Eats Kenya general manager Amal Devani, “We are excited to introduce this revolutionary app to Nairobi, after its huge global success in over 200 cities around the world. It has been custom-built to suit local needs, including the option of paying by M-PESA and cash. At the touch of a button, Nairobi residents are now conveniently and easily connected to their favorite restaurants.”
“As a customer, you will have the Uber Eats app where you can make your food choices and choose where to have it delivered within a few presses of a few buttons.”
Uber Eats will exclusively use motorbike couriers and charge a flat fee of Ksh150 ($1.48) for each delivery that can be paid via cash, mobile money platform M-Pesa or card.
Customers can pay via M-Pesa directly within the Uber Eats application by requesting a push notification from the rider and entering their PIN to approve the payment.
The service is initially available in Kileleshwa, Westlands, Kilimani and Lavington, and expected to be rolled out to the rest of the city, as well as other cities in Kenya.
The Uber Eats app is available for download from either the App Store or Google Play.
