The Uber-Didi competition has moved to India despite the agreement for Didi to takeover Uber China. This deal brings to an abrupt end the fierce battle between the duo to dominate China’s cab market. In this effort, Uber lost $2 billion in 2 years.
Consequently, Uber is now targeting India after losing China to Didi. This will definitely lead to a clash between Uber and Didi because Ola, an Indian online transportation network company, has Didi as one of its core investors. The later invested about $3o million in Ola last year. This deal boosted Ola’s profile in the 12 million dollars’ worth India ride-hailing services industry.
This transaction may be bad news in India especially for Ola as Uber plans to invest massively in the country. Thus, this may be another round of intense rivalry except Didi and other Ola partners increase their investment. Interestingly, Ola and Didi are allies in stopping Uber from making significant inroads in India and China specifically and Asia generally.
