With its new “Live Shopping” feature, Twitter is testing the ability for users to browse and purchase things while watching live streams. Recently, the social networking platform unveiled a test initiative that would allow users to shop without ever having to leave their apps. The feature, on the other hand, was only made available to iOS users. This recent version does have a similar constraint to the previous one.
Since the beginning of the year, Twitter has been experimenting with a variety of features, such as the subscription service called “Twitter Blue“. Users may read articles without being interrupted by advertisements within the Twitter app, and they can modify the programme with themes and unique app icons. The most crucial feature is that it allows users to “Undo” a Tweet before it is sent.
While the app does not include an actual edit button, it does postpone the delivery of the message, giving the user a limited window of time to make a modification. It costs $3 per month, so users will have to determine whether or not that is an acceptable price to pay for a few cosmetic features and the opportunity to delay sending a Tweet before hitting the send button.
A new Live Shopping feature is now being tested by Twitter, making it easier for the users to shop while they are watching a live stream. Users will see a list of products below the live stream, with the option to be routed to a page where they may purchase any of the items without having to exit the video or app while watching it. This Sunday, November 28, at 7 p.m. ET, will mark the debut of the first-ever live stream.
Walmart and Twitter are reportedly collaborating, and the musician Jason Derulo is scheduled to perform. Despite the fact that it will only be accessible on iOS and desktop, the event will last 30 minutes and will feature “electronics, home products, fashion, seasonal décor, surprise special guests, and much more.”
The inclusion of live shopping features in other social media platforms’ apps is being tested, such as Instagram and WhatsApp. Even if people desire to shop through a social media service, it’s uncertain who will top the competition. Because all of these services appear to be committed to including shopping as a part of their overall strategy, it appears probable that some version of Twitter’s shopping feature will be retained, even if it does not look or function exactly like the version that is presently being tested.
In any case, Twitter is in a compelling position, as the platform has the tendency of constantly testing new features and incorporating them. While some do launch and become a part of the whole experience, others are never used again after being abandoned. As a result, Twitter may just as easily decide to abandon its shopping plans entirely, and at little notice.
