Last night on Thursday, April 22nd, Twitter caused a little panic when it accidentally sent out emails asking users to confirm their accounts which according to a report by BleepingComputer seemed like a phishing attack.
The IT news company said that the emails began around 10 PM EST, with numerous Twitter accounts operated by BleepingComputer and its writers receiving the emails.
Twitter’s email subject which read “Confirm your Twitter account” had a button labeled ‘Confirm Now’.
The company’s support team went ahead to apologise for this mistake at exactly 4:44 am on Friday morning. The Tweet reads, “Some of you may have recently received an email to confirm your Twitter account that you weren’t expecting. These were sent by mistake and we’re sorry it happened. If you received one of these emails, you don’t need to confirm your account and you can disregard the message.”
Though the cause of Twitter’s message might seem like a simple error, it’s best to avoid risks when you receive an email you weren’t expecting, especially if it looks like a major company you know, and asking you to click a link.
