Twitter officially introduces the ability to signup and / or log into the app using your Google or Apple credentials

It has been in development for a while, and now Twitter is finally letting its users create accounts and / or sign in to the app using their Google or Apple credentials. The Social Network is also allowing you to link your existing account with Apple or Google if the email address matches.

Happy to help, Clement. When you’re logging back in, you can choose “Continue with Apple” to sign in using your Apple ID (the email must be the same as your Twitter account email).

This option makes it easy to access Twitter using information from your device, so you don’t have to enter your password every time. To take advantage of the new features, you must first update your Twitter account to the latest version. You will then need to log out completely from the app (all associated accounts), and when you log back in, you will see the new login options from Google and Apple.

As soon as you use one of them, it will be assigned to your account. This means that your Google / Apple credentials will be linked to your Twitter account. However, there’s a caveat that each of those accounts must have a similar email address as your Twitter account in order for the information to match.

This can be a handy option to make it easier to log into Twitter, making the process easy so users can reduce the number of passwords they need to enter. It’s also useful, especially for those long strings of numbers, texts and symbols that one needs to memorise.

Twitter’s new update is now available to all its users from today and soon, those using Apple ID will see the ‘Web sign-in’ option.

    Twitter for iOS

Evidence that Twitter was accepting registration with Apple was first discovered by researcher Jane Manchun Wong. Twitter currently only supports creating new Twitter accounts using Apple login. Apple provides support for apps and websites that allow users to sign in to Apple by updating their existing accounts, but Twitter doesn’t seem to have adopted this feature as it stands.

Apple devices have very strict guidelines when apps are required to support Sign-in. It is for this reason that Twitter for iOS has simultaneously added support for signing in with Google. The App Store guidelines also prohibits it from adding Google sign in support but not Sign in with Apple.

To use “Sign-in” with Apple, you must use two-factor authentication and sign in to iCloud with that Apple ID on your device.
