Twitter no longer exists as an independent firm. It is now a part of Elon Musk’s X Corp. According to an April 4 court document submitted for a lawsuit filed against Twitter, Twitter has been merged into a new entity called X Corp, which is incidentally owned by billionaire Elon Musk.
This new order was revealed when Journalist Laura Loomer posted a photo of a legal filing amid a series of tweets on Monday. She filed a lawsuit against Twitter, its CEO Jack Dorsey and some other companies last year accusing them of violating federal racketeering laws when they banned her account in 2019.
“Pursuant to Rule 7.1 (a)(1) of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, the undersigned counsel for Defendant X Corp., as successor in interest to named Defendant Twitter, Inc., hereby states that Twitter, Inc. has been merged into X Corp. and no longer exists,” the legal filing stated.
“X Corp. is a privately held corporation. Its parent corporation is X Holdings Corp. No publicly traded corporation owns 10% or more of the stock of X Corp. or X Holdings Corp.,” the legal document continued.
This merger has not been publicly announced but it seems to be a first step for Elon Musk in the creation of a super app “X” as mentioned by Elon Musk a year ago which could rival other platforms like China’s WeChat
Remember that Elon Musk has tweeted a year ago that buying Twitter was an accelerant to creating X, the everything app.
Early on Tuesday morning, Elon Musk responded with a cryptic tweet “X” as reports of the change trended on the socail media.
We await further developments from the billionaire to know the objective of this change. The Chief Twit has made a lot of changes to the company after he bought the company last year.
