In January, Twitter acquired the newsletter platform Revue, but so far, it has had little integration with the Micro-blogging site. There are times when you write a Twitter thread, and you will be saluted with a “Hello Wordsmiths” message. That’s Twitter informing you about this newsletter feature.
Twitter Acquires Newsletter Startup Revue
The Social Networking site is therefore officially testing this feature and will integrate the Revue newsletter into the Twitter experience more prominently.
Some web and Android users will be able to see the author’s Revue newsletter listed below the number of followers on their profile. If you click Subscribe, you will be prompted to read sample questions or subscribe using the email address connected to your Twitter account. Revue confirmed in a Tweet that this feature will also launch on iOS soon.
It’s a very simple feature, but it makes a lot of sense for anyone looking to start a newsletter or who wants to start using the platform. In theory, anyone can successfully write a newsletter, but a financially successful newsletter requires you to have a writing career, followers, or both. Twitter has now made it much easier to turn followers into subscribers with just a few taps. Much less inferior than one with a Substack link in the profile.
The newsletter market is heating up: Medium and Quora have recently launched new monetisation structures, Substack is currently worth US $650 million, and Facebook is planning a great newsletter series on the Bulletin. Even Tumblr is trying to profit from paywalled writing, although its user base isn’t thrilled. But with the new front and center integration in the Twitter profile, Revue can also accelerate its development.
Revue gets 5% of whatever a creator earns, together with 2.9% and $0.30, standard and processing fees respectively. Let’s say you’re a creator and a follower subscribes to your Revue newsletter for $5. You get $4.30. In comparison, Substack pays 10% of writer’s turnover plus processing fees.
