It was reported on Tuesday that Twitter will be discontinuing a function of its live broadcasting tool, but it is doing so to improve the quality of your video broadcasts.
What’s changed? You can no longer invite visitors to join you in a broadcast through audio before it goes live. To date, this feature has only been available since March of the year 2020. When you go live, your broadcast will just feature you and anyone else who happens to be in the frame. However, people can still interact with you while you’re broadcasting by posting in the chat or tapping to add a heart.
To better your video broadcast quality, we’re removing the ability to invite people when you go live.
Although Twitter claims the change is to improve video quality, it’s worth remembering that Twitter has another feature for sharing live audio: its Clubhouse-like Spaces offering. Spaces seems to be more popular than the previous feature of Twitter live video, so it’s possible the company decided it would be redundant to provide both and is instead focusing on the service that has gained traction.
A similar modification was made in September to improve video quality on the platform, as new videos posted there will be less pixelated going forward. So far, there isn’t much of a difference, however, users are welcomed to whatever improvement that Twitter can provide!
Furthermore, if you’re still planning your holiday ads, Twitter’s Christmas marketing mini-site, which includes a variety of case studies, suggestions, and insights to help with your process, was refreshed this week and might be helpful.
Although there aren’t many new materials on the mini-site just yet, there are some useful usage statistics and remarks on major patterns. Twitter has also provided connections to all of its advertising tools, as well as seasonal planning guides and tips pieces to get you started.
On October 14th, Twitter will host a new Christmas advertisements webinar where it will share new information to help you fine-tune your plan. Because of that, expect a larger push from Twitter in the run-up to the holiday season. You don’t have to pay to attend the virtual event, but you do need to RSVP in advance.
