Twitter is halting its verification program after only relaunching it last week. The company revealed that the pause is due to the volume of applications it has already received.
Twitter in a tweet announced the pause but also assured that it will reopen soon.
The company opened the application program on May 20th and had already warned that the timeline for request could stretch out. “Once you submit your application, you can expect an emailed response from us within a few days, but this could take up to a few weeks depending on how many open applications are in our queue,” Twitter said in a blog.
However, it seems the volume of applications has gone so high that the company left with no choice has had to pause the program just about a week after it was reopened.
The new program had given anyone the chance to apply for the coveted blue mark, hence the overwhelming number of application but under the new guidelines, six categories of accounts can qualify for verification: government; companies, brands, and organizations; news organizations, and journalists; entertainment; sports and gaming; and activists, organizers, and other influential individuals.
