Twitter has announced that it has temporarily suspended ads in Ukraine and Russia as part of a safety initiative to reduce “risks associated with the conflict in Ukraine.”
“We’re actively monitoring for risks associated with the conflict in Ukraine, including identifying and disrupting attempts to amplify false and misleading information.”
Twitter did not specify how long these measures would be in effect but stated that they were part of the company’s continuous efforts to respond to Russia’s invasion of Ukrainian territory. In a statement, the company stated that it is “actively monitoring for hazards linked with the crisis in Ukraine,” which includes identifying and preventing attempts to spread false and misleading information.
The company also said that it’s directing people to Moments and Events that have been put together by its editorial team to give more information about what’s going on in Ukraine. Experts have also warned that misinformation and misinformation about Ukraine will keep spreading via social media.
In addition, Twitter says it’s working to keep “high-profile accounts” safe from hackers, as well. “We’re always looking out for high-profile accounts that could be taken over or manipulated.” This includes journalists, activists, and government officials and agencies. Just the day before, Facebook stated that it would make its one-click “lock profile” feature available to Ukrainian users in order to assist protect their personal information.
