Twitter announced on Wednesday, August 12, that it has eliminated the 140-character limit from its direct message feature, which allows users to communicate privately with each other. The expansion is a move to make the site more engaging and easier to use.
The limit on direct messages rises from 140 to 10,000 characters.
Back in June, Twitter announced its intention to drop the 140 character limit in a blog post.
Twitter has begun rolling out updates today across its Android and iOS apps, on twitter.com, TweetDeck, and Twitter for Mac. Though, Sending and receiving Direct Messages via SMS will still be limited.
This update will continue to roll out worldwide over the next few weeks. If you want to try out longer Direct Messages, be sure you’re using the latest versions of the app so you get the feature right away.
