Twitter creates special #EndSARS emoji in support of protest

Social media giant Twitter has created a special #EndSARS emoji to show its support for the ongoing protest in Nigeria.

The emoji is a clenched fist in the Nigerian green and white colours. You do not need to do anything to get the emoji. Just type #EndSARS on your tweet and when live, Twitter adds the emoji.

Jack Dorsey, Twitter CEO, first tweeted with the emoji in the early hours of today.

This is another initiative that the social media giant CEO has shown to support #EndSARS. He tweeted about the Feminist Coalition donation link for the #EndSARS protest

The #EndSARS protest started some days ago to protest the killings and harassment of youths in the country. It started on Social Media but migrated to the streets some days ago when youths decided enough was enough.

The protest has elicited the support of the global tech community and celebrities

We strongly oppose oppression, brutality & intimidation. We believe a fair and impartial police force is a critical element of a stable society, & that abuse of power infringes on people’s democratic & human rights. We urge a speedy resolution to the current situation. #EndsSARS

Even though the Inspector General of Police announced the disbandment of Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), the protests are still going on across the nation and in some nations around the world.

The protest has attracted the support of celebrities, tech companies and more as most of the young techies were affected by the harassment. Flutterwave and Feminist Coalition set up crowdfunding platforms to support the movement.

    The struggle continues…..
