Twitter announced that Twitter Blue, its paid subscription service, will relaunch today, 12th December 2022. However it will be at a higher price for Apple users. The relaunch announcement was tweeted by Esther Crawford, twitter’s director of product management.
According to her, the paid subscription service will be $8 per month on the web and $11 per month on Apple’s iOS.
The increased price for Apple users might be to offset Apple’s 30% commission for in-app purchased subscriptions. This recently set off a storm between both companies as Twitter accused Tim Woods’ Apple for cutting advertising on the platform.
She also said that the social media platform has added a review step before applying a blue checkmark to an account as one of its news steps to combat impersonation.
Late last month, Elon Musk had tweeted that the Twitter verification feature, Twitter Blue, would be tentatively launched on Friday, 2nd of December. It had to be suspended initially because of a “high level of impersonation.”
However this did not happen and we are expecting the relaunch today, 12th of December 2022. Elon Musk had said that there will be three checks this time – a gold check for companies, grey check for government and the blue check for individuals. He adds that individuals that have blue checks, can have secondary tiny logo showing they belong to an organisation if verified as such by that organisation.
As a subscriber , you will get the ability to edit your tweet, carry out 1080p video uploads, get reader mode, and get a blue checkmark (after your account has been reviewed). Subscribers will also have their tweets “rocketed” to the top of replies, mentions and search and will be spammed with 50% fewer ads.
Twitter says that it will begin replacing that “official” label with a gold checkmark for businesses, and later in the week a grey checkmark for government and multilateral accounts. Subscribers will be able to change their handle, display name or profile photo, but if they do they’ll temporarily lose the blue checkmark until their account is reviewed again.
