TrueCaller, the service that that transforms today’s phonebook with a set of smart features to make it more intelligent and useful, is seeing Africa as a growth opportunity considering the continent’s rapidly growing smartphone penetration rate. The company is also seeking brand ambassadors in Africa, according to Nami Zarringhalam, the company’s Co-Founder and Chief Strategy Officer.
In an interview with Innovation Village, he said the company is aware that startups are a growing trend in Africa, and TrueCaller would like to get more involved in the startup movement in Africa.
‘We are seeking to collaborate with network operators and ecosystem owners. We also want to engage with local app developers and the startup community,” he said.
He noted that the company needs to have local knowledge about the markets.
“Something that we’ve been doing that is very successful is to interact with passionate people that both love our brand and have great understanding of the market,” he told Innovation Village.
He added that the company is constantly searching for passionate people who love Truecaller to join the company’s brand ambassador program.
“We understand that Africans are very tech savvy, curious, and early adopters. They like to explore, and spread the word of good apps. Truecaller originally picked up quickly in other regions due to word-of-mouth,” he said.
