Truecaller, the Caller ID & Spam Blocking app, announced that it has started the rollout of a new voice calling feature, Truecaller Voice. The firm said that its app can now be used to place free VoIP-powered voice calls.
This new feature pits the app against Facebook’s WhatsApp which the social media giant boasted last year that its users were spending 2 billion minutes per day on its video and audio calls.
Currently Truecaller says its users make more than 180 million phone calls per day through the Truecaller dialer. It also says that half of the calls are calling other Truecaller users. So the company naturally has positioned Truecaller voice strategically to take advantage of this opportunity. The Truecaller voice icon ias been strategically integrated into convenient places within the app such as your call logs, SMS Inbox, contact profile and after call screen. This enables users to seamlessly access the VoIP based call anywhere within the Truecaller app without switching to other applications.
With this, Truecaller currently offers a one-stop integrated communication platform that hosts a range of key features including Caller ID, Intelligent dialer, Smart SMS inbox, Mobile Payments and Flash messaging.
“We are ecstatic with the launch of Truecaller Voice. We have been working towards building a full communication suite for our users and voice calling is the next big step in line with this mission,” says Rishit Jhunjhunwala, VP of Product at Truecaller.
Techcrunch reports that a representative with the company said Truecaller began exploring the free voice calling feature a few months ago. It began testing the new functionality with alpha and beta test group users four weeks ago. It now plans to introduce group voice calling support soon, the company said.
