Japanese cybersecurity firm, Trend Micro, has announced that it’s laying off 2% of its global workforce as part of its business transformation strategy.
The company, which had a workforce of 7,582 employees as of June 2023, aims to align this decision with a focus on expanding their customer base through their platform.
A spokesperson said in a statement;
Trend Micro informed 2% of its worldwide team that their roles were eliminated. This decision is in alignment with Trend Micro’s business transformation and focus on customer expansion through our platform.
This announcement came after the company responded to an analyst’s question in November about its declining workforce, stating that there were no active plans to increase headcount.
With a challenging economy, Trend Micro joins other tech companies such as Unity Software and Xerox that have announced job cuts recently. Unity Software, which provides tools for video game developers, reported a 25% workforce cut, thereby affecting about 1,800 employees.
Xerox, on the other hand, announced plans to eliminate approximately 15% of its total workforce, roughly equating to 3,075 employees.
