Obiageli’s path to product management wasn’t a straight line. But unlike those who assumed tech was synonymous with coding, she discovered the world of product management, a field that perfectly blended her strategic thinking and creative problem-solving skills.
“I was captivated by how Product Managers drive the development of products that impact our daily lives,” she explains. This realisation fueled her desire to understand the user’s needs and translate them into tangible solutions. Obiageli’s decision to transition into tech solidified when she recognised the potential to contribute meaningfully, not just as a programmer, but as a driving force behind the products themselves.
Of course, this transition wasn’t without its challenges. Obiageli had to adapt her existing skills to the more strategic and creative demands of product management. “I had to learn to balance technical requirements with user experience and focus on driving innovation,” she recalls. To bridge the gap, she proactively sought out learning opportunities that provided her with foundational product management knowledge. She also tapped into the power of networking, connecting with mentors and embracing continuous learning to hone her skills.
Obiageli’s internship proved to be a pivotal step in her journey. Drawn to the opportunity for hands-on experience, she was eager to apply her newfound knowledge in a real-world setting. While the experience was more demanding than she initially anticipated, it offered invaluable insights into the day-to-day realities of product management. “It was more intense than I expected,” she admits, “but I gained clarity each day.”
One particular challenge involved navigating the complexities of a pre-existing product roadmap. “I initially struggled to grasp its purpose and details,” she says. However, with persistence and a willingness to seek clarification, she came to appreciate the roadmap’s importance in guiding development and aligning team efforts. This experience underscored the value of clear product vision and strategic planning.

Today, Obiageli is energised by the core elements of product management: crafting detailed product requirement documents, participating in agile stand-up meetings, and witnessing the tangible results of each completed sprint. She thrives on the collaborative energy of team discussions and the satisfaction of seeing a product evolve from concept to reality.
Looking ahead, Obiageli envisions a future where she can lead teams, influence product strategy, and drive significant business outcomes. “I want to be a successful Product Manager who not only drives innovative solutions but also contributes to shaping impactful products,” she affirms.
