TopCheck, a Nigerian Insurance Comparison site, has announced that it raised 1 million Euros in a recent seed financing round.
According to the founder Thomas Pilar, “TopCheck is the “Bankrate of Africa“, a price comparison platform for financial services. On TopCheck, African users can currently compare and buy insurances. Further financial products will follow. We bring a business model that is very successful in Europe and the US to the growth market Africa.”
Investors include Mountain Partners, business angel Dr. Cornelius Boersch who brings along European Investment Fund as co-investor, the founders of Trivago, business angels Alexander Fugger, Ron Hillmann, Martin Scherrer (former CFO of Comparis, the Swiss comparison site), the co-founder of Rocket Internet’s Lendico Clemens Paschke, and more.
Interestingly this announcement comes soon after South Africa’s Click n Compare said that it was expanding into Nigeria with the acquisition of Insured.ng
