    Agtech operations in Africa have continued to grow as every country is taking vital steps to prevent prospective food security challenges. Agtech is the application of technology in agriculture beyond machines but involves the use of soft applications to make sure agricultural processes and practices are enhanced. Agtech startups established in different ways to make sure there is food security. In North Africa, various Agtech startups have been established using different approaches to solve agricultural issues.

    Here are the top 5 agtech startups in North Africa

    AgriEdge

    The agtech startup is situated in Morocco. It aims to provide precision services to farmers to enhance farm produce output and reduce the cost of farming. The startup makes use of combined data analysis to evaluate and determine if a chosen farmland has the maximal requirements for an intended seed to be planted on the farmland for the optimal yield.

    AgriEdge also has a marketplace platform to sell farm produce. The platform, AgriSoo9 is opened to cooperatives and farmers in Morocco to advertise and sell produce.

    Plug’n’Grow

    The startup is located in Cairo, Egypt. The startup develops Aquaponics and Hydroponic based agricultural solutions.

    The solutions maximize renewable energy and limit the use of nonrenewable energy as much as possible. Plug’n’Grow helps combat food insecurity and reduces activities that affect climate change adversely.

    Askova

    The startup is based in Egypt, however, make use of different and unique approach to integrate technology in agriculture. Askova developed a prototype wind turbine to accelerate wind speed in agricultural farms. Egypt’s wind is not strong enough for farming purposes due to its position on the equator.

    Askova wind turbine prototype has a special casing that accelerates wind speed while focusing the wind to blow in areas that have limited wind speed. The wind turbine is designed to be economic.

    Askova has many awards, partnerships, and prizes and it is helping the startup take its brand global and increasing its product development.

    Agtech.Consulting

    The startup is based in Morocco. It focuses on the distribution of agtech products and offers agtech consultation services.

    Agtech Consulting offers its services in both public and private corporations. They also work in association with other organizations to make sure their processes are seamless.

    They partner with Stellar network of companies, Thinkbio, LLEAF, and Afficher plus. The companies have different agtech product offerings and their services are all-encompassing.

    Wastilizer

    The agtech startup is based in Egypt. It produces fertilizers from animal wastes. The animal wastes are processed by passing through biogas turns into a slurry. The fertilizers produce are bioorganic and it is beneficial as it saves costs for the farmer and recycles wastes.
