Today, Microsoft is hosting a special event called “Reinventing productivity: The Future of Work with AI,” where the company plans to showcase its innovative approach to “reinventing productivity with AI.” The event, hosted by CEO Satya Nadella and head of Microsoft 365 Jared Spataro, will commence at 8AM PT / 11AM ET. If you’re Lagos, Nigeria this should be 4 PM (16:00).
During the event, Microsoft is expected to demonstrate the functionality of its ChatGPT-like AI in Microsoft 365 and Office apps such as Teams, Word, and Outlook. This comes just two days after Google’s announcement of AI features in Gmail, Docs, and other tools that could be seen as a response to Microsoft’s innovations.
The race between the two tech giants for the future of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and work productivity applications remains fierce. As these two industry giants continue to innovate and bring new products to market, it’s becoming increasingly evident that the stakes are high.
Tonight’s event by Microsoft could serve as a pivotal moment in this competition and attendees will likely see how OpenAI’s new GPT-4 model can generate emails in Outlook, create documents in Word, take meeting notes in Microsoft Teams, and more.
Microsoft’s CoPilot AI experience, which uses OpenAI models to create sales emails, has already been launched in Dynamics 365 and Viva Sales. Therefore, deeper integration of such AI features into core Office products like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook could significantly enhance document creation and presentation.
Google has also showcased similar AI features in its Google Workspace suite, but access to the tools is currently limited to “trusted testers.” However, Microsoft has already publicly launched its AI-powered version of Bing, demonstrating its eagerness to make its AI innovations available to as many people as possible.
Tonight’s event promises to showcase most of Microsoft’s brightest ideas. You can stream directly from the comfort of your home via Microsoft’s dedicated news site, and it will also be available on LinkedIn.
Innovation Village will report back a news summary of the event for those who may miss it.
