She recently performed at the swearing-in of Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari on May 29, 2015 and now she has been selected as the 2015 Intel® She Will Connect Spokesperson in Nigeria.
Award winning Poet and Actor, Titilope Sonuga is now part of the program that aims to close the Internet gender gap, connecting millions of girls and women to opportunity.
By partnering with various female focused NGOs across the continent, the Intel She Will Connect Program’s goal is to reach 5 million young women in Africa by 2020. The program offers an innovative combination of digital literacy training, an online peer network and gender-relevant content to females which will afford them the opportunity of acquiring or improving their digital literacy skills and expanding their understanding and use of technology.
Born in Nigeria and raised in Edmonton Canada, Titilope is a Civil Engineer by education. Early in life, she discovered that in order to hold on to the past that shaped her, she must speak her stories like an affirmation. She found a new sense of community serving on boards for the Edmonton Poetry Festival, Spoken Word Canada (SpoCan), The Unveiling Africa Foundation and the Canadian Authors Association Membership Committee. Recognizing a thirst for creative space in her community, she created Rouge Poetry, a weekly spoken word night in the heart of Edmonton, Canada.
Titilope as an actor, plays the role of ‘Eki‘ in the Ndani TV hit television series, Gidi Up.
Her year as the initiative’s spokesperson will kick off with a Radio tour in Nigeria with representatives from various NGO partners to speak about their work through the initiative.
