TikTok has announced a new feature that adds a dynamic twist to music and audio sharing: the launch of “Share to TikTok.” This latest feature empowers users to share music, podcasts, and audiobooks from popular music streaming services, including Apple Music and Spotify, directly to TikTok. With just a tap from the share menu on these platforms, users can now seamlessly post their favorite tracks, albums, and audio content on TikTok, opening a world of new opportunities for music discovery, artist promotion, and creative expression.
How “Share to TikTok” Works
The “Share to TikTok” feature allows users to bring music and other audio content into the TikTok environment in two unique ways:
- TikTok Feed Posts: Users can share tracks, albums, or playlists to the TikTok Feed, which includes both the For You Page (FYP) and Stories. This content can be posted using TikTok’s well-loved “Green Screen” feature or “Photo Mode,” which gives users creative ways to present the music they’re sharing.
- TikTok Messages (DMs): In addition to sharing publicly, users can send audio content directly to friends via TikTok DMs. Friends receiving these shares can easily access the original content on the music streaming platform from which it was shared, providing a seamless listening experience.
Each piece of content shared through “Share to TikTok” features a link back to the original source on the streaming platform. This means that if a user shares a track from Spotify or Apple Music, other TikTok users can click the link to listen directly on the DSP (Digital Streaming Platform). This creates a smooth, circular journey of discovery that benefits TikTok users, DSPs, and the artists behind the music alike.
Strengthening Partnerships Between TikTok and DSPs
“Share to TikTok” builds on an ongoing partnership between TikTok and the music streaming services. The launch follows TikTok’s earlier introduction of the “Add to Music App” feature, which enabled users to save tracks they discover on TikTok directly to their streaming service of choice. According to TikTok, “Add to Music App” has already led to millions of track saves and billions of streams, reinforcing TikTok’s role as a major driver of music discovery and engagement.
Ole Obermann, TikTok’s Global Head of Music Business Development, emphasized that today’s launch is a natural progression. “’Share to TikTok’ takes the user experience full circle and will be an amazing way of promoting artists and tracks to the TikTok community,” Obermann said, underscoring TikTok’s commitment to supporting music promotion alongside its DSP partners.
Enriching Creative Expression on TikTok
The new feature also aligns with TikTok’s core mission of fostering creativity. Lindsey Kelt Zikry, TikTok’s Global Product Partnerships Lead, highlighted the feature’s role in enhancing creative expression. “Our ‘Share To TikTok’ integration enables seamless sharing of content from music streaming services to TikTok, unlocking a limitless new method of creative expression for users and creators alike,” she shared.
