TikTok says it is rolling out its comment dislike button on its platform globally after selectively testing the feature since April 2022.
According to the short-form video app company on Twitter, “Earlier this year, we started to test a new way people could identify comments they believe to be irrelevant or inappropriate. After some testing, we’re releasing it globally.”
“We’ve created it as a new way to hear feedback directly from our community. This allows us to better identify irrelevant or inappropriate comments, which helps us foster a comment section for genuine and authentic interactions,” says TikTok.
When a user dislikes a comment, it won’t be made public and the commenter is not notified either. If someone comments on something, they won’t be able to see how many times it’s been disliked. It will also be possible for people to take back their feedback by tapping again whenever they like.
With is development, TikTok joins other platforms that have some variation of a dislike button. For example, YouTube also has a thumbs down button for comments, but the dislike count is private.
It is hoped that the introduction of this feature is effective and achieves its objective.
