TikTok Is Experimenting A New “Stories” Feature

It’s official! Twitter has shut down its Stories feature called Fleets, but “Stories” is a tool that other social platforms are continuing to explore. TikTok has confirmed that it is testing TikTok Stories, a new feature that will allow the community to explore additional ways to bring creative ideas to life.

The feature was highlighted by Social Media Expert Matt Navarra on Twitter, who, sometimes, is one of the first to discover new features in social apps.

TikTok Stories appears to be similar to Instagram or Snapchat Stories features. TikTok Stories live in the recently added slide-over sidebar, where users will be able to see stories posted by accounts they follow. This will be on for 24 hours until they disappear automatically. Your followers will be able to react and/or comment on your story, and as with Instagram and other platforms, you can also update your story by clicking on your profile picture.

TikTok Stories will have a dedicated camera on the left side of the main screen, making it easy to find and create stories to share in the app.

TikTok has said that this feature (in the popular video app) is “a new way to interact with your fans.” You can create a new story by tapping a “create” button which TikTok added to the sidebar, then add the usual captions, music, and text. In keeping with its essence, it seems TikTok Stories will likely be videos, and still not images.

There is no word yet on how big the TikTok experiment will be or which users or regions will have access to it. But it also makes sense as part of TikTok’s broader growth strategy.

We’ve reached out to TikTok and will definitely post updates to this after we get confirmation.
